Two South Carolina Players from the Midlands Receive MVP Award

SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA-Following South Carolina’s 21-12 victory over North Carolina, the defensive and offensive Most Valuable Players were announced. On offense it was, Mr. South Carolina Football and Louisville commit Matt Colburn from Dutch Fork High School. Receiving the defensive MVP award on for the Sandlappers was Hassan Belton from Blythwood High School. Both players are products from the Midlands, specifically from Region Four, 4-A.

Matt Colburn finished up the day with 13 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown that came late in the first half. Hassan Belton totaled 14 tackles, 2 of which were for a loss. Belton would also go on to recover a fumble.

Other notable players from the Sandlappers include JJ Arcega-Whiteside who had 2 catches for 71 yards and a TD, one of his catches came off a spectacular circus act, that will most likely be featured on ESPN’s Top Ten in the coming weeks.

Following the South Carolina victory on Saturday, the Sandlappers now hold a 44-30 record all-time versus the Tar Heels.
